Development of materials for biomedical applications from native starches and nanoparticles of biological origin.

Past works suggest that starch can be used for biomedical applications, as a substrate for the growth of cells, systems for controlled drug delivery, wound patches, tissue engineering scaffolds, etc.

This project seeks to use starches to make bioplastics that serve as matrices in new bionanocomposites with biomedical applications. Among nanoreinforcements to be used, we have starch nanoparticles , chitin and cellulose. Thus, to obtain materials with improved mechanical properties support biomedical applications. The biocompatibility of these bionanocomposites will be validated by in vitro tests, including tests in SBF (simulated body fluid) and planting of animal cells.
This project contributes to the development of a new bioplastics industry in Peru with high value-added applications, whereby the development of clean technologies and encourages the use of synthetic plastics which are petroleum contaminants overridden.
